Sprint points are a unit of measurement used in Agile project management to estimate the amount of work that can be completed during a given time period or sprint. Sprint points are assigned to each task or user story in the project backlog based on the amount of effort required to complete it.

The determination of sprint points is typically a collaborative effort between the development team and the product owner. The team reviews the backlog and estimates how much effort it will take to complete each item, and then assigns a corresponding number of sprint points. The sprint points are not based on the amount of time it will take to complete a task, but rather on the level of effort required, taking into account factors such as complexity, risk, and uncertainty.

One of the advantages of using sprint points over time estimates for project costing is that they are less prone to inaccuracies caused by individual variations in team members' skills and working pace. Time estimates can be affected by external factors such as changes in requirements or unexpected issues, making them difficult to predict accurately.
